How long is a writ effective

How Long are Writs Effective?

A writ is effective for 182 days for judgments issued after 8/8/2001 (for judgments issued before 8/8/2001, a writ is good for 91 days).

The effective period starts when writ served on garnishee, or when a writ a prior writ expires.  Once a judgment creditor’s writ expires, he/she will have to get a new writ from the court and serve it on the garnishee, unless the judgment has been satisfied.
