When I can be sued in small claims court
Someone can only sue you for $7,500 or less in small claims court.
- I am not suing for defamation by libel or slander, eviction, or injunctive relief or a matter regarding probate, mental health, divorce, or custody. Read Colorado Revised Statutes §§ 13-6-105 and §§ 13-6-403 for more information (links to laws below).
- The defendant is an individual and lives, works, or is a full-time student in the county where I plan to file,
- OR, the defendant is a company or entity with an office for the transaction of business in the county where I plan to file,
- OR, I am suing for a security deposit or to enforce a restrictive covenant and the property is located in the county where I plan to file.
