Board of Assessment Appeals Review of a Property Tax Assessment

You have two options to appeal the County Board of Equalization's decision. This page outlines the process to appeal to the Colorado Board of Assessment Appeals. If you would rather have a judicial review by the District Court in the county where the property is located, go back and select "Step 3: - (Option 1) - Judicial Review."

To request a review and a new hearing with the Board of Assessment Appeals follow the steps below:

Step 1 - Start the Case

  • Form: Petition.
  • File: Mail or deliver the original Petition and three copies with the Board of Assessment appeals. 
    • 1313 Sherman Street, Room 315, Denver, CO 80203.
  • Due: Within 30 days after the County Board of Equalization's decision.
  • Pay: Pay the filing fee set in the Petition.
  • Give a Copy: Give a copy to the County Board of Equalization.

Step 2 - Prepare for the Hearing

  • Date: The date of the hearing will be sent at least 30 days prior. 
  • Exchange Documents: At least 10 days before the hearing, the parties need to exchange the documents they plan to present at the hearing. 

Step 3 - Hearing

  • You may attend the hearing in person, by phone, or by video conference. 

Step 4 - Decision

  • The Board of Assessment Appeals will mail its decision to you.
