Determine if Municipal/City Court is of Record
- A Court of Record records its hearings and trials.
- This will determine which appellate court will review the case.
Courts Not of Record
- File a Notice of Appeal & Designation or Record - JDF 222 within 14 days of the Final Order in the County Court.
- Give a copy to the City Court and City Attorney.
- The case will be set for a new trial in the County Court.
Courts of Record
- What do I File?
- Where do I File?
- File the forms with the City Court. Then file a copy with the District Court in the county where the city is located. For address information visit the Colorado Court Finder.
- When do I File?
- Within 35 days of the Final Order.
- What do I Pay?
- Pay the $70 Filing Fee when you file with the District Court.
- If you cannot afford the Filing Fee, fill out file a Motion to Waive Filing Fee - JDF 205 and Order re Filing Fee - JDF 206 with your first filing.
- Serve:
- Give a copy to the City Attorney's office.
- Notes on Filling out the Designation of Record:
- Write in the date of the hearing, the time that it started, and the courtroom you were in for each transcript that you will order and purchase.
- Transcript:
- What: A transcript is a typed document that contains the word-for-word testimony of what was said at the trial.
- Why: An appellate court cannot consider any new facts or evidence. It must rely solely on the facts that were presented to the deciding court. Many facts come onto the record through the testimony at the hearing or trial.
- How to Order: Contact the city court for information on how to order and purchase a transcript.

Include with your first filing in the District Court.

Fill out the case caption and file with the Motion to Waive Fees.
