ADR

 

Stands for Alternative Dispute Resolution.

  • An opportunity to come to some mutual decisions outside of court.

 

Mediation

 

  • A type of ADR.
  • A neutral person helps the parties to compromise a solution
  • The parties resolve all or some of the problems outside of court.

What is mediation?

 

  • Mediation is a chance to resolve your case out of Court. 
  • A mediator will help you work through disputed areas. 

 

Who mediates?

 

  • Anyone can be a mediator. 
  • Sometimes the Court will assign a mediator.
  • You may use the assigned mediator.
  • Or,  You may select someone else you both want.

 

Where do I find a mediator?

 

The Colorado Office of Dispute Resolution has information on:

  • Referrals to mediators in your area.
  • What to ask a mediator.
  • Assistance with paying for mediation.

 

Agreement

 

 

  • You may resolve everything at mediation. Or,
  • You may only agree on a few items.
  • Anything left will be decided by the Court after a hearing.

 

Waiving Mediation

 

 

You may request that mediation not happen.
